Late this morning at work, as if someone flipped a switch, my left (dominant) shoulder decided it wanted to hurt. A lot. I don’t like getting old.
I’m hoping that I either somehow slept weird on it or maybe tweaked something in all the undercoating-scraping I’ve been doing recently. Per the above diagram it’s right about where the pointer for the deltoid is hitting it, maybe a little higher.
It only hurts when I lift my elbow (think chicken dance) or rotate my arm while elevated, and it’s the motion that hurts,
not the being-in-that-position. No fun. If it keeps up into Monday unchanged (or worse) I’ll have to actually do something about it.
On a positive note, I did run some errands after work and with my 1.5 functional arms finished masking the C hevelle’s firewall for primer in the morning.
Half-assed “don’t fog the freshly painted floor pans with red primer” masking is half-assed
I also received the lower-back-part-of-the-fender patches which will be the templates to rebuild the area that the fenders bolt to at the bottom of the cowl, which has returned to the earth. Those parts will later
go on to repai
r the fenders in the same location.

Fingers crossed it’s not the shit my shoulder did. Seriously, I wouldn’t wish that hell on anyone and motions exactly like what you’ve been doing are what set it off.

Me: “Doctor, it hurts when I do this .”
Doctor: “Then don’t do
that
.”

I’m dealing with the same issues on the right shoulder, heating pad and rest is the best remedy so far

Getting old is still better than the alternative. Luckily at 35.5 I have somehow remained ‘invincible’. M ost of my friends, not so much. Hope you feel better.

Here is my shoulder advice: if the doctor says “get the surgery, it will be good as new with a few months of physical therapy” don’t get the surgery. I had SLAP surgery years ago and the result is less acute pain when I do certain things and now just a constant nagging a che.
Hope it’s nothing serious and that it feels better soon. My advice is 800mgs of Advil and some heat. Maybe ice cream too.

I had a major labrum tear (basically the entire back side had separated) as well as a shoulder separation. Got surgery for the tear which eliminated the instability, but I’ve never been able to work up to the strength I had before.
I’m definitely not qualified to diag nose, but for me the thing that indicated there was a big issue was that I couldn’t offer any resistance to the doctor pushing down on my arm when it was outstretched to the front.

Jesus Christ, so much this.
I smoked for 22 years (1 month shy of a year quit now!) , and that was the blanket answer to any ailment I had, whatsoever.
I was almost happy when I crashed my bike this summer and peeled my arm open like a potato, and knew I was going to be able to tell the doctor I didn’t smoke. No more sanctimonious bullshit speeches from nurses/physicians assistants/doctors. Yeah, I knew the shit was killing me, but addiction is a motherfucker.

Been there. And it was for a stupid reason - a low-speed bicycle accident in which I turned into a human pretzel. My g irlfriend found it quite funny that after the accident I carried my bicycle upstairs and hopped on the internet to research the problem. Or maybe she thought it entertaining that I tried to relocate the shoulder by slamming it against the door jamb like I had seen my mother do in years past.
The drugs at the hospital were quite good, and I didn’t really care that it took them hours to get around to treating me or that it took several people several attempts to get the joint in place. Afterwards I did have a problem getting around because all of my cars had manual transmissions. A coworker was more than happy to take my 5-series and let me have his old Explorer, except for a few days when someone else needed the Explorer so I got their CVT-equipped 2000 Civic. But whatever - it was cheaper than renting something whilst I recuperated.

Ouch, that’s a nasty one.
Fortunately I seem to be able to use mine still
(e.g. I can carry stuff in front of me, and so on) - it doesn’t hurt more if I push on it, just hurts getting it to and from that position.

This is why I couldn’t be a doctor because that’s my level of advice for most
things.

Hopefully yours is nothing. Best thing to short term is to just take some ibuprofen, ice it, and rest it.

Smoking won’t help anything.

Pretty much exactly what my doctor told me.

I am 52 and have the exact same pain in my right shoulder (fortunately, I’m left-handed). My doctor basically said, “Don’t do anything that makes it hurt and it will eventually get better.” I’m still waiting.

Im not a doctor but it sounds like rotator cuff to me if rotation is what causes the pain. The deltoids are fairly large superficial muscles so if they’re injured you should feel the tenderness. If it keeps bothering you I’d look into physical therapy. My mom’s a PTA and most people think surgery is the solution but the issues usually stem from weakness in small support muscles that we don’t focus on. One of the easiest excercises you can do for rotator cuffs are band pull aparts.
Obviously wait for it to feel better, and don't overdo it with the bands. Id check that you have the shoulder mobility for that just using a strap before attempting it with a band.

Smoking is
bad
for you, okay?

I realize now I posted the one where you just pull it apart. There are variations where you pull the band open and then rotate the shoulders back stretching the pecs and front delt

I’ve been continuing wrenching, just have to do some things differently so it doesn’t hurt as much!
